HOW TO WRITE A BOOK REVIEW

A book review is a reaction paper;

It focuses on 1)Purpose, 2)content and 3)authority in which the strengths and weaknesses of the material are analysed.

It consists of two main parts:
  1. Summary, which is the easiest part of the paper. You restate the author's main points, purpose intent and supporting details in your own words. It is of high importance to conceive the book as a whole so do not try to come up with a summary on every chapter. And avoid excessivce quoting.
  2. Analysis: it's a detail evaluation of what the author is trying to do. It looks at the work's weaknnesses and strengths. Avoid being subjective, that is to say, do not give your personal feelings and thoughts on the book. If you use quotes, they have to prove what you have written. Present an accurate balance betweenn strenghts and weaknesses, cite your source and remember to look beyond the surface, go deeper in the analysis to evaluate everything that has been written. A good analysis always requires time and critical thinking.
