Speech acts: Constative and performative - Colleen Glenney Boggs

This short TED-TALK is about "speech acts". A clear difference between a statement that describes and one that commands is part of an idea developed by J. Austin. In addition, this distinction is defined as two parts of speech, which are, constantive and performatives. The former are defined as sentences that describe something as true or false, and the latter denote an action, they do something. Moreover, when words represent actions in themselves, they are known as speech acts. They include functions of the language, such as, ordering, apologising, warning, etc.
